We exist in comparison or 'relative' to everything else (which affects how we feel about ourselves and our surroundings) Without anything or anyone to compare ourselves with we wouldn't exist as we are. If we were placed into a weightless environment where we couldn't see, hear, feel, smell or taste (sensory deprivation) our brains would eventually have no data to process (nothing to compare ourselves with) and would literally shut down. We would cease to be who we thought we were (compared to) and simply be who we really are.(eternal) Now imagine all the influences and experiences you've had in your life, most of which you had little or no choice in. Now you walk through life comparing what you've been through with what others have been through. You 'get along' better with those who have lived similar experiences (or share similar beliefs and values) while dismissing those who you connect less with because you don't know what their perspective is (where they're coming from). This limits potentially new experiences and other choices. We've all had the experience where we shun the unknown (such as a new food) and later find out that we really like it. Or had an impression of someone only to find out that they weren't what we 'thought' they were.

Relativity Comparing what is familiar to us oftentimes is essential to our well being. What limits us however is when we judge someone or something to be right or wrong compared to our definition. We are all  individuals and our life experiences let us see the world in a way that is unique to each one of us. Honor that, in yourself and in others. Your perceptions and interpretations are an experience of a lifetime (of experiences) up to and including the present moment and we all have something to learn and appreciate form the other interpretations.
